Bowie -- Available Soon!

Bowie is a two year old American bulldog mix. He was found and rescued in Memphis,Tennessee, where he lived his entire life tied to a tree by a 30 pound chain, with only three feet to move. He had never lived in a home and was never treated like a pet, until coming into foster care.

Bowie is now up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and recently completed heartworm treatment. Since November of 2019, he has been in training with Heather Gutshall, a certified dog behavior consultant and trainer, to help him adapt to human interaction and kind words --concepts previously unknown to him. He has made significant progress and is eager to learn, despite his troubled past. He is a loving and intelligent dog, and incredibly loyal.

Bowie gets along with other dogs, yet struggles with sharing. He holds on to what he considers valuable, having come from an environment where he was irregularly fed and forced to be independent. However, he continues to work on his possessiveness in training, and it is recommended that professional training be continued in his new home.

Bowie is a strong and fast 60 pound dog who is very curious. Therefore, it is best that he is adopted into a home with no cats or young children, and he requires a fenced yard. He will do fine living with older children who know how to be respectful of animals.

His ideal family is one who can welcome him with patience, and is knowledgeable about his breed. Bowie is a protective dog, as well as playful and happy who loves long walks and car rides, so we are seeking a family who can plan on plenty of exercise. Since he is so loyal, his trust must be earned through multiple visits and interactions so he can adapt well into a welcoming home, and be a loving companion.
